Cell Groups
At the center of Open Eyes' commitment to transforming Central America through ongoing discipleship is its program for building cell groups. The Cell Group approach has proven highly effective in building the Kingdom of God across Nicaragua, Honduras, and is now expanding into Costa Rica.
Open Eyes uses Cell Groups to spread Christian discipleship like wildfire. Using a carefully developed approach, cell group leaders are identified, recruited, trained, and then continually mentored.
Rather than just focus on constructing church buildings or the old-style of church planting, Open Eyes believes it best serves the Lord through the building of people. Mass evangelism efforts can often bring hundreds if not thousands of people at a time to a saving knowledge of Jesus, but a traditional church planting infrastructure cannot be put in place fast enough to move people along in an effective discipleship program. Cell groups are discipling believers and expanding at an unbelievable rate. As of 2007, Open Eyes has influence and input into over 20,000 cell groups.
Street Ministries
Taking the word of God to wherever people are. Door to door, on the fields with sports activities, and doing fiestas which combine songs, games, drama, and a clear presentation of the gospel. Also we take this into the market place, schools, prisons, hospitals and just walking down the street.
Church Partnerships
Open Eyes holds to the core belief that effective ministry will grow, strengthen, and support the efforts of local churches. While Open Eyes does not utilize traditional church planting methods, we put a tremendous amount of effort into helping make churches more effective in reaching the lost, and discipling Christians.
We assist church growth through evangelism programs, cell group planting, leadership development, and church conferences. Open Eyes projects do not function independently from the local churches in communities in Central America. We focus on building effective relationships that will grow the Christian church in unity and strength.
Crusade Outreaches
An event which brings together all, or most, of the churches in the area designated to proclaim the Word of God. A general schedule includes 3 crusade nights surrounded daily by evangelism, a leadership conference, a women’s conference, as well as visits in schools, prisons, hospitals and elsewhere. Our average attendance will be 2,000 - 3,000 or more a night. The use of buses, banners, handouts, radio, TV, and other activities are important in filling the stadium, church, or field where the crusade is being held. Photos
Leadership Training
Part of our commitment to help strengthen and grow the Kingdom across Central America is our approach to leadership development. Many churches have pastors that receive very little encouragement or further training of any kind during the year.
Open Eyes Zone Pastors spend a lot of time encouraging and equipping the pastors of churches across Central America. This can take the form of teaching in the church, assisting in developing growth strategies, leadership training, leadership conferences, and small group studies.
Often when pastors from the U.S. come to be a part of an Open Eyes project, we will enlist them to conduct leadership training with the Zone Pastors as well. The involvement of pastors from the U.S. is critical to this effort because they have a motivating and energizing impact on any church leaders they come in contact with. Our Leadership Training Program for churches and organizations, such as the National Police and businessmen, consists of five (5) levels; leading to increased leadership skills. Photos and More...
Construction Ministry
The construction ministry involves the building and/or updating of churches who truly are proclaiming the Word of God. We also coordinate the construction of houses for needy families who are homeless or living in severe poverty conditions. Photos
Children's Ministry
The Children's Ministry includes ministering to children through the "fiestas" mentioned under "Street Ministry". It also includes sending children to school, providing meals for hungry children and clothes for both they and their families. We also share Christ in pre-school and elementary schools and teach children in Sunday schools and small group settings. Photos
Schools with a Purpose
Our goal for "Schools with Purpose" or "Escuelas con Proposito" is to reach every 6th grader in Honduras with the following topics, beginning in the Comayagua region.
- Human Values
- Integrity
- Honesty
- Gratitude
- Self Control
- Optimism
- Self Esteem
- Peer Pressure
- Ethics of Work
- Ethics of Learning
- Communicating with Parents
- Sexual Values
After each school has finished the 12 lessons we will have a celebration time, inviting parents and families and provide them with New Testaments and a copy of the book,
"Finding Strenght in Our Weakness", by Dr. William Black. Then the gospel will be presented and a local pastor will do all followup. We have a backlog of schools waiting for Schools with Purpose to visit them. Photos
Operation Future Feeding Program
Through Operation Future, Open Eyes provides nutritional meals for hungry children, who otherwise would not have food without this ministry. Our goal is to feed 100 + children per day with nourishing food, the Word of God, and to reach their parents and families through Iglesia Brigada de Amor Cristiano Church in San Marcos de Colon, Honduras. Pastor Marco Aquiles Pereira is the pastor of the church and leader of our project. He is also a Doctor and works for free in the communities that we are presently ministering with the feeding program.
If you would like to help provide additional food for poor and hungry children contact us by e-mail. Photos and More...
Medical Services Ministries
Open Eyes sponsors medical ministries in a wide variety of areas. Visiting team members routinely include doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, ophthalmologist, optometrist, EMTs, paramedics, and others. When a medical team expresses interest in visiting Central America to provide free medical services as a form of ministry, Open Eyes schedules the event with local authorities in the area and makes sure all of the needed facilities will be made available. Open Eyes also advertises the event in advance so that it will be well attended. We work with the team well in advance to make sure we are prepared on both ends. Our staff also accompany the teams during their visit, assist them, provide translators, transportation, housing, food, and other logistics, as well as prayer support and local tours as time allows. Much is involved in conducting a first-class medical missions trip and Open Eyes has the experience and expertise to do it right. Terry and Arlene DuPont both have backgrounds in the medical profession and thoroughly enjoy seeing dedicated professionals volunteer their time and energy to help touch the lives of the less fortunate. View our Medical Trip Checklist for more information. Photos
Sports Ministries
Open Eyes supports and coordinates a variety of sports ministries designed to reach and disciple as many youth, children and adults
as possible through sports activities. These range from soccer, basketball, baseball, and more. Each sports event features opportunities to share testimonies, enjoy the fun of the game, and spend some special time with fans of all ages. Invitations are also given and many come to know Christ through these fun events. Photos and More
Business Men's Conferences
Open Eyes is active in trying to reach businessmen and city officials with the gospel through presenting "Ways to Increase Your Companies' Bottom Line". Strategic planning and hands-on business plans are what every company needs to prosper and we help guide local business leaders to obtain these.
